  here is what it says in my dx-100 manual
 the following is done with meter switch in the plate position

 move the XTAL-VFO switch to one of the unused crystal positions
and adjust the clamp control behind the panel untill the meter reading
just returns to zero. Then return the XTAL-VFO switch to the VFO
position.
