Hi all. I managed to get the heath receiver up
and running on Saturday night. Was copying 40 meter
morse all night long. I came home on sunday night,
ready to tune to the w1aw broadcast, and there was
no audio coming from the unit. I ordered the tubes
for the audio stage, and I'm going to change them all.
Hopefully that will fix the problem.
Here's the question. I have a VFO for the unit, and
there's a plug labeled VFO in the back of the unit.
There are also two crystal plugs in the front. When
I have audio, and when I set the unit up to spot on
40 meters, I get a really loud tone, indicating that
the VFO is actually connected. But I tested the key jack
on the back of the VFO, and it doesn't work. The key
jack in the transmitter does, even tho there's no crystals
installed. Any help with this?
BTW, how complex is it to tune the transmitter once everything
else is up and running. I did a really quick SWR check
since I have a dipole installed, and it's about 3:1 right
now, but I haven't trimmed the dipole yet, and it's still a
little long. I have no idea how to tune it up tho, and don't
want to risk keying the unit down for too long, in the
hopes that I won't have to buy transmitter tubes too.
Again, any help ??? Tnx in advance, 73.
