I sold a beautiful HG10B at Dayton last year for $50.00. The fact that
someone bid$170 plus for one should not give anyone undue concern about
auctions, capitalism or ham radio. Someone paid more than they might have
otherwise, who knows his motivations? It is entirely possible the bidder knew
exactly what the item's fair market value was, but paid the additional amount
just to beat the other bidder. This is what makes auctions work. The guy
pays $60 for the item, and $110 for the pleasure of outbidding the
competition. Apparently it was worth it to him. Ain't America ( and/or free
markets) great?
I like hamfests, and go to a number of them. I see a lot of overpriced ( in
my view) junk and a lot of ( again in my mind) reasonable or bargain priced
equipment. I really believe you can get pretty much whatever you want at a "
reasonable" price, but reasonable depends on your personal tradeoff between
time ( for shopping) and money. Anyway, I for some reason couldn't resist
jumping in on this thread, now back to more important things. Anybody got an
HW-9 with WARC bands in mint condition for $85.00? Please email immediately.
:)
