Hi All,
I seem to remember a larger (4-400A size) power tube exhibiting a non-gas blue
glow at my old saltmine. I seem to remember one of out tube engineers (I was
working at a tube plant) saying that it was some form of electron clouding
related to voltage plus taking large average currents. Its a few years ago and
don't remember the particular situation.
As for 6146's I have never seen a blue glow except for gas.
Hope that didn't muddy the waters.

p.s.: To answer the inevitable question. I was a test equiptment engineer at
what was the Raytheon Co. Microwave Tube (magnetron, CFA, TWT) plant in
Waltham, MA. That business was sold to Litton about 5 years ago.
