IT-17 Tube Tester question

Greetings...
Has anyone with an IT-17 noticed that the meter pegs violently when testing
the transconductance on some known good tubes? I noticed this a few months
ago when testing a particular tube; there were no shorts indicated when
flipping the non-boldface switches, but when pressing the test switch, the
needle pegged and vibrated against the pin. I double-checked all the
settings. Not believing that the tube was bad, I tried several more of the
same type, with the same results. After checking the IT-17's wiring, I
concluded that it must be a mistake in the roll chart. Yesterday I was
testing another tube - a different type (6BL8 - I don't remember the tube I
was testing before), and two of them gave the same result. Just wondered if
anyone else has experienced this, and might know the cause.
Thanks,
Terry
