Most likely failure is caused by leakage in the 0.15 @ 1600V filter caps in
the HV supply.  They ALL seem to be/go bad causing increased current drain
on the transformer.  The original caps were rated at 1600V, and the
multiple units that I have owned have all had better than 1600V DC HV.
Best idea is to replace those caps ASAP with 2000V rated parts.  Not easy
to find these days, but Allied has them.  Their $50 minimum order is a pain!!
