This doesn't sound to me like he was planning on ripping off Heathkit. I
read it as he was trying to find out if there was interest in his buying
the rights to the manuals from Heathkit and having them professionally
reprinted. Maybe he was thinking of making it a cottage industry? If so
maybe we should cut him a little slack?? Just a thought.
