Actually, unless you have a key plugged in it might do that.  I remember
some of the older rigs shorted the key jack if there wasn't a key plugged
in.  Or, could be as simple as a jack that has the prongs touching inside.
I worked on a keyer for 30 minutes once trying to figure out why it kept
sending dashes... (grin and dah)

P.S. And when the people give you a hard time for running AM just tell them
it's a new mode...double sideband with a carrier inserted.  You'd be
surprised how many people I pulled that one on and it worked. (can you tell
I used to be in sales?)
