(In order to check out the radio)

Is the dummy load 50 ohms?? Don't assume it is -- my Cantenna measures 80
ohms! Sucks up oil over the years.

What does the RELPWR read?? At full pwr, it should read about 3/4 full
scale. Does it vary as you adjust the Final tuning and loading and Driver
adjustments?? There should be peak on all three adjustments. You should
be able to increase the CW pot for a max RELPWR and any further increase
will not increase RELPWR. The proper setting is just below this spot.
Also measure the volts at the bias pot wiper (center connection) -- it
should read about -70V.

Sounds about right.

the HM-102 wattmeter reads 170 watts, that is going into the dummy load.
===================================
No way. Max will be about 120 Watts. Something is really strange here.

===================================
Reading on wattmeter is way too high, like maybe the finals are
oscillating. But the power supply (HP-23?) fuse or breaker should have
popped. Just for the hell-of-it, if your PS has a fuse, check it -- it
should be not larger that 4AmpSB.
BTW -- is the PS set for 300V on low voltage side (as opposed to 250V)??

==================================
Sean -- after all this, I think your real problem is just a dirty meter
switch. Switch it back and forth a bunch of times and maybe spray some
contact in it. And there is something screwed up in your wattmeter. There
is no way a pair of 6146s will output 170 watts.
... one more thing, what band were you on?? I suggest you use 80 or 20
for initial tune up. My SB-101 did strange things on 40 until I
incorporated some Heath service mods.
Hope you get your HW-101 working -- its a nice rig.
