Yes Terry,
I did just that with an originally badly built/modified DX40U. I also had to
calculate and rewind some missing inductors and to do a little metal
bashing. Had to replace the mains transformer too. Luckily I had the manual
with all Heathkit's corrections. It probably then worked as well as it ever
did, chirpy on CW (very chirpy on 10 m!) rough mod unless it was very
carefully tuned up and when using the matching VFO, FM'd very noticeably for
anyone listening to it on SSB - ie almost everyone! But a rewarding
experience nevertheless. Now see what happens when you fire it up in AM on a
crowded 40m!
