What a great story! Liquid solder.....ugh! It was intended for plumbing.
When I was in grade school, a long time ago, my science teacher made me use
it on a small electronics project as they did not want the liability of
kids using hot soldering irons in class. The stuff I used was not even
conductive!! Needless to say, the project did not work. Took it home,
undid it and re-soldered with the real stuff and it worked fine!
How fortunate the original owner of your kit was that it worked. Obviously
followed rule #1, have a good mechanical connection prior to soldering.
