Steve,

If George is not using the transceive operation, then the 401 should be
using its OWN carrier oscillator, not the 301's.

George,

It has been a long, long time since I used a 301/401 pair. But, if you
have the crystal pack in the 401, you shouldn't need the cables to
transceive with the 301. If memory serves, the only interconnection
cables necessary between the 301 and 401 are for antenna switching and
receiver muting. Neither of these is absolutely necessary. Try hooking
them up one at a time and see which one affects the 401's output.
