One additional note, I went through this drill a few years ago... but most
of what I learned has faded from the gray matter. I do remember, however,
that the "A" version was better suited for VHF applications. It seems that
was due to lower interelectrode capacitance or some such. I had several
responses at that time (on the boatanchors list) to the same end. I learned,
from first hand experience, that the "A" versions were much easier to
neutralize in my SB-500 2 meter transverter. I found some "B"'s and "W"'s
that I couldn't even neutralize with the stock component values.

>1) The 6146B has 5 watts more plate dissipation, a controlled warmup
>heater and has been especially designed for AB1 (linear) service.
>2) The 6146 is a redesign of the 807 and primarily for Class C service.
>3) The 6146A is an improvement over the 6146 but I don't remember what.
>4) The 6146W is a ruggedized version of the original 6146 for mobile and
>wartime service.
