I started work at Heath just after the 2036A was released and the story
as I remember it is as follows.

The original 2036 was released and several 100's of units sold. While
the radio's worked fine in a fairly benign rf environment like St.
Joseph, MI, they were a total disaster in high rf environments like
Chicago and the complaints came flooding in. Terry Perdue (who signs in
on this list) was stuck with the task of fixing the problem (basically
reference related spurs in the synthesizer) and he finally got the job
done and the 2036A was born. Heath recalled ALL 2036s and replaced them
with 2036A's. The 2036s were dumped into Lake Michigan. I did hear an
humorous story about a party given by the guys at Heath for Terry -
involves a shotgun and a 2036 - but I wasn't there so maybe Terry would
like to fill in that one.

That's how I remember the story - maybe Terry or Jerry Tolsma or some of
the other guys would like to chip in and straighten out any errors on my
part.
