Something New to Build!!

There are two new kits to build. They're not Heathkits, but if they arrive
with a part missing, there's a company around to support them. And you won't
have to slug it out on EBay for seven days to get the only one at an
outrageous price. You can buy these babies at retail.
Oak Hills released a five band superhet QRP rig. It offers RIT, AGC, CW
filter, and operates 150 KHz on 80, 40, 30, 20 and 15. It sells for $349, is
shipping now, and is sorta "HW9-like". It's a nice looking radio that should
perform very well. I've gotten a lot of use out of the four bander (OHR-400),
and this is supposed to be quite a bit better. I'm about 50% through the kit,
and I'm having a blast. Check it out at "www.ohr.com".
Elecraft is about a month away from releasing the K2. This is a high-tech
radio with a PLL synthesizer that runs 10 watts, CW/SSB, 10-160. It includes
a digital display, dual vfo's, RIT, XIT, memory keyer, and more features than
you can shake a stick at, including an optional antenna tuner with latching
relays. Call it "HW5400-like". Except, unlike the HW-5400, this one should
be very easy to build because it doesn't have point-to-point wiring, and it
was designed by Eric Swartz and Wayne Burdick (the designer of the Sierra). I
won't even try to describe all of the features that this rig will have. Check
it out at "www.elecraft.com". You won't believe it.
Happy building.

Rob, W3DX
