The OHR-500 Lives

I just completed my Oak Hills Research OHR-500, and it came up like a champ.
If you're looking for a Heath-like building experience, the assembly was very
much like the HW-9 QRP rig.

The feature set is very similar to the HW-9: 5 watts, cw, wide/narrow filter,
RIT, and front panel power level. The OHR-500 also has AGC on/off and a
convenient front panel tune switch. The parts count and board density are
similar.

The construction is also very similar to the HW-9. There is an internal
chassis, with a clamshell top and bottom cover. Boards mount above and below
the chassis, which cuts the radio in a horizontal plane.

The radio has very nice step-by-step instructions, and first class boards and
components. Oak Hills also makes a very nice companion digital display (the
DD-1 digital dial).

The band coverage is different, however. The HW-9 covered 80-10, inclusive.
The OHR-500 covers 80, 40, 30, 20, and 15.

Details at "www.ohr.com".

Have fun & 73,

Rob, W3DX
