HW-101 Warble problem

Hi,
Going nuts.
Trying to get back in the hobby after years of virtual absence. The mind is
willing but the rig is weak.
On receive and transmit there's a small frequency shift or warble around a
center frequency--it's not really
drift. This makes CW impossible and SSB embarassing--and illegal, I'm sure.
I have taken the VFO aprt and secured the 4700 pf mica cap to the housing with
glue; there are
no components with long leads in there.
I have swapped 6AU6's and sprayed contact cleaner in every socket. Checked most
of my tubes at a tube
tester 99 miles away--except for the 0A2 VR tube. Tester didn't support it.
Voltages appear to be normal. Shorted out the PS socket to allow it to be
powered with no load for days in the thought that capacitor reforming was
necessary.
Now what--and ideas? Has anyone seen this problem?
My wife won't let me just go out and buy a new rig cuz it's a dead hobby :-(( I
have to prove her wrong.
Thanks,
Jeffrey Weiss
