HW-101 Some questions

I am not a collector, just a ham that likes the HW-101.   A couple
questions for the more experienced:

1.      Is there anyone that made direct replacement solid state boards
for the HW-101?   I want to     reduce the current load on the 12 volt
power supply by not having so many filaments to heat up.
2.      Has anyone used conductive grease to ensure the rotor of the VFO
variable cap. is grounded?
        I would rather not use the grounding strap suggested by (what I
remember to be) a Heath service         bulletin.
