Advice on cleaning HW-101 chassis

Thanks to all that responded to my posting abt cleaning PCBoards. I
ended up using denatured alcohol -- the kind used for thinning shellac. I
don't know the water content of this kind of alcohol but I bet it's
high. I used a 49 cent paint brush and Q-tips to paint it on and scrub
off the crud then just poured it out the can to flush it off. Worked
pretty good and did just what I wanted -- got rid of the dirt without
attacking the silk-screening or component marking. As a bonus, I found a
couple of bad solder joints and an electrolytic that had boiled out its
bottom.

I don't know what this alcohol will do to plastic or front panels since I
had removed the panel and the VFO.

Again, thanks all for the advice on what to use and what not to use.
