I cleaned my HW100 in my xyl's (and my) dishwasher. just took off all
paper products (relays, paper caps, etc.) the dial, and relays and put the
liquid dishwasher soap in the little tray, and whoosh!, the crud came off.
I dried it with a blow-dry fan so that the little metal washers would not
rust. i let it dry SEVERAL days in a clean warm environment to get all
the moisture out of the wires. then i set to work refurbishing the whole
bag. now i have a nifty 100 watt rig that provides me with great fun.
with only the ssb filter in the hw100, i can easily hear all of you at the
same time!
i understand from a friend here in the rochester ny area that the military
used to do the same thing. in fact, maybe the dishwasher was invented for
the military to clean parts. he said that he repaired electronic gear in
germany directly after WWII. they received a shipment of equipment from
the Pacific theater and had to clean the mildew and jungle crud off of
them. the rigs they just cleaned up with cloths, etc., continued to have
problems. the ones that had been thrown into the hot water baths with
heavy metal soap worked fine afterward.
so much for lore.
ciao
