There is a real easy way to drop the voltage on a small receiver
without resorting to the addition of a power wasting series resistor in
the primary. by means of a common 12 volt 2 or 3 amp filament transformer.
The primary is hooked up to the line but the secondary is placed in
series with the power feeding the HR-10 or the line input of the
device being reduced. If the secondary is phased one way it will "boost"
the input by 12 volts. Reverse the secondary connections and it will
"buck" and reduce the voltage by 12 volts. Cheaper than a Variac and
does not "waste" power as heat. The voltage will be reduced or increased
by whatever the secondary voltage of the auxiliary transformer is depending
on how it is connected.
