572B Tubes, RCA antenna connections

And now my $.02 worth.
My 1964 SB200 manual lists the tubes as p/n 411-198, 572-B or T160-L.
The 572-B were Cetrons and the T160-L were, I believe, made by Taylor
which made quite a few RF tubes in the '50s. I have heard the rumor that
the Svetlana 572Bs don't like to operate horizontally. They make a big
deal about their 811s working great in the 30L1 but in the current
commercial applications (Ameritron, etc) the 527B is always vertical. And
no mention about horizontal operation. Any experiance out there with the
Sventlana 527B in the SB-200? The US-made Cetron 527B is available at
about 50% more than the Russian jobs. If my SB-200 needed new tubes,
that's the way I would go.
I modified my SB-101 about 30 yrs ago with a UG-1094 BNC connector and it
required no metal cutting and is reversable. The problem is that a BNC
connector is a bigger pain in the neck to terminate than an RCA and
probably is no better. I read a report about a year ago on the Collins
reflector and it said that if the RCA connector was clean and tight, it
was as good or better as a UHF type. I have found that the car radio to
UHF adapter from RadioShack works OK but there seems to be a small
dimensional difference because it tends to crack the insulation on the
chassis RCA jack.
Ed M., eventually the cable from the SB101 is going to adapt to a UHF
connector, so you are going to have a Z bump. In my station, the RF from
the -101 goes through an -1234 switch, a SB-200, a SB-610, a SA2060 tuner
and another 1234 switch then out the window to a very reactive antenna.
I'd hate to think of the impedance bumps along the way.
