Touchy SB-104A VFO/LMO/PTO

Hi, Fellows...
My new-to-me SB-104A works pretty darn well, except that the VFO/LMO/PTO
is REALLY touchy for the first hour or so. Seems to me that others
probably had difficulty with this, and there is probably a documented
fix for it somewhere.
Could one (or more) of you please fill me in? I don't know if the
problem is temperature-related or maybe a flaky NPO cap or what. Owner's
Manual and Assembly Manual don't cover this "in case of difficulty"
problem.
Thanks es 73,
