Moderate the List!

Harvey,  et al;

I don't think a moderator is the answer. Remember that the moderator
must read ALL postings, a task just too big to tackle in any kind of
speedy manner. It's up to us as members, readers and ADULTS to police
ourselves, just as we do on the ham bands.

Personally, I think Dave does an OUTSTANDING job of keeping the list
going. And he's always ready to deal with the unwelcome junk that shows
up. And he does that to THREE lists. I hope he has a very understanding
boss and/or family with all the time he spends on tempe.gov.

As for Heath or anyone else making .pdf files of the manuals: Good idea.

Problem: Most of Heath's manuals were photo offset press created, from
"cut and paste" masters on stiff paper backing. I know; I wrote more
than my share of them. Those masters don't exist anymore; so who's going
to duplicate them. Heath doesn't have resources at this time to put into
that much effort.

Also, the software to do it is not cheap. Adobe gives away the reader,
but the Acrobat program to generate the files runs over $600 per copy as
I recall. Some can afford it; but it's not a program I have resources to
buy. And since each page of each manual would have to be recreated,
scanned or "printed", that will take a lot of extra work. I'm getting
exhausted just thinking about it. Oh-Oh; here comes another attack of
writer's cramp! (Sorry).

Just my $.05 worth.
