I am the 2nd owner of this SB-102. I will put you in touch with the builder
and 1st owner of this unit if you are seriously interested. I just got my
Novice and bought this set-up. However, it is obvious that this unit should
be brought back to life by a Heathkit specialist, not a Novice.

I am a firm believer in giving as much info (the bad, the worse, and the very
ugly) about a unit as possible. It is very disappointing to buy a unit, and
when it arrives by UPS, the surprise is not a happy one. I'm sure you agree.

The Station includes: SB-102 Transceiver, HP-23A Power Supply, SB-600
Speaker, HDP-21A SSB Microphone (by Electro-Voice for Heathkit), all original
Assembly Manuals.

The units are strictly to be sold all as one package. Price $185. plus
shipping of your choice.

Now for the bad, the worse, and the very ugly:

The front faceplate of the unit is in good shape, however, the cabinet has
some small dents on the right side, no paint is missing, two small holes
drilled in the back (for what I don't know) and some brown discoloration over
the finals from a fan that was sitting on top of the cabinet. There are no
drill holes for the fan. It just sat on top of the unit, unsecured. There
are minor chips in the paint around some of the corners of the cabinet.

The LMO feels loose when the tuning knob is turned, and the mechanism needs
lubrication. Any SB expert should be able to bring it back to perfection
easily. The tuning knob is the type with the finger well.

The rubber belts for the final tune and preselector need to be replaced.
There were many postings on this Heath site recently about suppliers of these
belts/bands.

Some of the pots. are well used and turn more loosely than others. A Heath
perfectionist might want to replace the pots. with higher quality ones.

The receiver portion of the SB-102 needs some help. Two new tubes plus new
filter caps. for the power supply should do the trick. A CW Crystal filter
is installed.

Grid current isn't up to snuff. May need new final tubes in the near future.
Transmitter portion puts out 100 watts on 80, 40 and 20 meters.

The Transceiver has the original RCA antenna connector. SB-102 has a small
modification, a 110 Volt AC outlet inside, to power a fan to cool the finals.

The power supply is in great shape. The speaker is OK to look at, but when
you turn it over, there is a very slight dent on the bottom and the paint is
scraped off, about 1 inch. Also, there are 4 holes drilled in the bottom,
perhaps for mounting a power supply of some sort.

The microphone is in good shape, except for some wear on the grill.

All Assembly Manuals are included. I am still waiting for the Operating
Manuals to arrive, but they should be available to be included in this
package.
