Greetings, rosin core afficionados:
I have acquired an Apache TX-1 that is is good condition, would make a
good restoration project. My question is whether it is worth it. Are
these good rigs? Is the receiver for them findable? I have heard that
the dial mechanism is a Rube Goldberg.
What sage advice can you offer through the clouds of rosin incense.

On the Cap checker front, one of the gang acquired my Heath C-3 cap
checker which has a bridge for value and several voltages for leakage
testing/reforming. I find that another cap checker I have for sale, by
Lafayette, is identical in circuit and function to the Heath C-3. It is
not restored, but is all there and would be easily restored. With the
C-3 or Lafayette it would be easy to clip a milliammeter in the test
leads and use the leakage voltages for reforming. I can provide a copy
of the C-3 manual for the Lafayette. I will sell it, you restore it, for
$25, or I restore it for $50.
On both the C-3 and Lafayette I would install a snap switch where the
spring-loaded leakage test switch is now. I would also take the
rectifier tube out and put in a 1000 PIV 1 amp diode down thru the tube
socket. With a snap switch, you can leave it on, set up your reform
leads and meter, go to 25 v leakage voltage, reform or test, then step
up to next voltage etc. to continue the reforming process.
