Back on topic and other trivia

Greetings Heath fans,
It's probably time to get back on the topic of Heath, where you folks stay
an amazing amount of time. You're a great bunch...making the list a
no-brainer to manage. Thanks.
Now, some trivia:
To combat spaming and virus spreading we have the following set in place:
To post to the list you MUST have a valid return address. You all had to
send an OK back to the system. Anyone can subscribe, but they have to
confirm. Spammers never take the time, and they know they would be kicked
off after the first post.
Because anyone can subscribe, the messages that have been sent out using
recent posters subjects and addresses, just about anyone could get the
information. It's probably NOT coming from the archives. Anyone with the
right tools and a sick mind could write an automated program to do exactly
what this guy or organization is doing. I've thought about it...I could
write it in a day (I'm only lacking the sick mind). Any post you make to
any list could get an anonymous message from me with anything I want in the
subject and body all automatically. In other words, you don't have to be
smart to do this....actually, stupid helps. (grin)
There are limits to the size of messages on the list...150 lines. This
blocks most virus problems from spreading through the list. Never open an
attachment and you shoud be fine.
The attachements to those messages probably are not actual virus
programs...hence, they are not detected by a checker. But, if you think
about it, the fact that they are coming at you and your trusted checker
isn't picking up on them, it's undermining your confidence...exactly what
this 'person' is after.
So, knowing that shutting down the archives isn't going to stop it, (it's
happening on the QTH.NET lists too) and nothing short of shutting down the
lists will, we really need to figure out another answer. My answer would be
to get back on topic and don't mention it on the list. If the person
doesn't get the attention, he or she will probably give up and go get a
job...as a programmer...at some bank.... Oh man!!
Anyhow, Happy Holidays and try really, really hard to be good boys and girls
(for Santa) and let's talk about Heath again.
