Need DX60 help

I have a DX60 (not A or B) and I got it going basicly and seems to work ok
except. I use a 40 meter crystal (7050) and load xmtr up ok, but when go to
key it agn, it doesn't seem to oscillate unless I start twisting the drive
tune knob quite a ways.  What should I look for?  I also have a Knight V44
VFO(I believe that is the model #) that I would like to team up with it and
stabilize some.  Would appreciate some advise.  I also don't have manuals
for either.
Wouldn't mind finding them.
