SS9000 Xmit Audio Problem

 I have a Heath SS9000 and am getting poor Xmit audio reports. Others say
the audio lacks bass
and sounds "hollow"  I have adjusted the USB LSB calibration with a freq
counter and that is right on.
The audio stays the same on both lsb and usb.  I have tried different mikes
including two by Heath, all with
the same results. I do have the service manual and am contemplating where to
go next.  The receiver in this rig
works super and I just got the matching HL2200 amp.  Any suggestions would
be very much appreciated.
