WTB and question

Hi all,
It's me again. This time I am looking for any of the following receivers
or something comparable for a friend that wants general coverage AM and
SSB for the ham bands: Heath SB-310 or GR-54; Hallicrafters SX-100 or
SX-122 .

For myself, I want a boatanchor to go with my DX-100; maybe a Heath RX-1
or Hallicrafters SX-28. I prefer something inexpensive that maybe needs
repair. I have more time than money.

Now to the question.
In researching receivers for the above list I found in Chuck Penson's
book on page 194 under SB-310 the statement that " the filters are the
same ones used in the SB-300 and 301" I have both of these receivers and
mine do not use the same filter. The SB-300 filter is larger and mounts
differently. There has been some discussion lately about these filters
and I would like to know if Chuck is wrong (don't take it personal Chuck,
it is a great book! ), or if Heath put out SB-300's using both types of
filters? If so, you need to be careful when buying a SB-300 to go with
the filters you already have (my case).

Thanks for the space,
Ed Richards
