GC-1A Tuning Help

Hi folks, after a long hiatus I've jumped back on the listserv, this time
with my ham ticket.  I've gone back to working on my garage-sale-special
GC-1A (Mohican) and it seems as though the previous owner mucked with the
factory-set IF-section slugs.  I'm having a hard time even finding the
signal injected from my RF generator. Is there any way I can bring these
back into spec?  Ed Mosher, any hints?
