"Low-noise" resistors

Hello,
A couple of older Heath audio amplifiers I have use "low-noise"
resistors at the anode and cathode of the first tube of the
low-level (mag phono) input. I believe these were known as
"cracked-carbon" resistors. Are modern metal film resistors
suitable as replacements for these? My ARRL Handbook describes
metal film resistors as creating "little noise". I was just
wondering how they compare with the cracked-carbon resistors.
Thanks.
