Chirp

Recently my HW-16/HG-10 signal was reported as "unique", then a
pre-arranged contact with a nearby ham/friend confirmed chirp but only when
using the VFO, not with crystals. The voltage at the "regulated" end of
the voltage regulator tube in the VFO dropped about a needle width key up
to key down, only a couple of volts, but the tube was replaced and the new
one shows no variation. I haven't had the transmitter on the air yet or
tested the old tube so "final" results are unknown at this time. The
independent power supply idea described earlier on the list sounds like a
very good idea but ... has anyone tried (now I'll put my asbestos suit on)
a solid state mod such as a zener or two on a 7 pin plug in place of the
0B2?
