power cord quest

My solution would be to remove the chassis socket, mount a piece of
aluminum plate inside the chassis using the original holes, drill a hole
in the middle, install a normal 3 wire cable through the hole with
appropriate mounting procedures, and then connect the wire inside. Might
be necessary to add a terminal strip and maybe bypass capacitors. Seems
like this would give a clean installation with no new holes. Oh yes, keep
the chassis socket in case power cords show up. :o)
Just one Heathkit lovers opinion......no charge.

Any thoughts about converting to the standard computer type cordsets? I know it means "chopping up" our beloved rigs, but "when all else fails..........." Further, in the case of the SB-401, which has a heavy 2 wire cordset, are there going to be any cordsets made today that are 2 wire ungrounded with enough beef to carry the current? I don't need any replacements just yet, but there is always the future. Just my thoughts, but open to any suggestions.
