Hi Kit Builders:

Please forgive my stretching the limits of the subject matter covered by the
Heath usenet list, but I know many members of the list are very interested in
kit-building, so I'm posting an update on the Elecraft K2. The first 100 K2
field test kits have shipped. Mine arrived on Friday, and it's a work of art.

The rig is the most feature-laden amateur radio kit in radio history, taking
over from the Heathkit HW-5400. The radio is amazing: cw/ssb, digital backlit
display, dual vfo's, split, rit, xit, built in memory keyer, scanning, antenna
tuner, dual antennas, built-in battery, swr/pwr,s-meter, tilt-stand, flywheel
knob, etc., etc. The rig weighs in at 3 pounds (the 5400 was a bruising 24
pounds), draws 100 mils, and has no point-to-point wiring (the 5400 had scary
wiring). The rig also has built-in test equipment (including freq counter).

The user's guide is also very impressive, with assembly photographs, parts
photographs, troubleshooting section, and superb illustrations.

Take a look at the radio at "www.elecraft.com". It's a real treat.

73 & DX,

Rob, W3DX
