Thanks to all those who replied to my queries regarding that fine
receiver. So far, I got a couple of replies from individuals who have
similar mode switch arrangements, so I'm not alone. One even pointed out
something I hadn't even mentioned: IF ANL. It's activated by pulling out
the AF Gain knob, just like the SB-301. So, I would guess at this point
that there might well have been two slightly different production runs
of the SB-301. Time will tell. As for the SBA-310-3 mod kit to convert
11m to 15m, I figured it out. Had a spare xtal for the low end of 10m.
Removed the 90pf RF amp padding caps and changed those to 68pf. Next I
changed the heterodyne oscillator cap from 50pf to 36pf. Did a minor
re-alignment of the appropriate slugs and I was in business. 10m is a
lot more usefull to me than the 15m broadcast band. The receiver can be
changed back to stock status later without any problem. I've also
deceided to leave all else alone for now and just be content to use the
receiver. Oh, yes, it does have the 5KHz filter and it does sound real
fine.
