AM-2 Germanium Diode ?

Hello Fellow Greenies & Heathenites,
        One of my AM-2 SWR meters acts like it has a bad germanium diode. The
colored bands are- red,green and violet. Does anyoe know what would
substitute? The manual just lists "germanium diode". Any help will be
greatly appreciated.
        Also, has anyone ever converted an AEA CP-1 RTTY/Morse unit to RS-232?
I'm having a problem with the jumpers that go to the DB-25.
