Heathkit Apache

I started today to work on a TX-1 I bought some time back. After a quick
check out all seemed fine, so I plugged it in. Tuned it up just fine. I
noticed that the audio I was transmitting sounded very poor. The I saw one
of the 5r4's blink and the fuses popped.

About an hour later I traced the trouble down to a .001mf 2kv cap that went
short. It's the one on the input of the plate choke, I don't seem to have
one on hand to replace it with, so I just removed it and now the xmitter
works and sounds great. My question is just how important is it that I
replace this cap???

Any help would be just great...
