how to clean knobs

Try scrubbing them up with lacquer thinner (caution, flammable). Then
scrub good with a small brush like a toothbrush and a general cleaner
like formula 409, or whatever your favorite is. This will leave them
dull aluminum. At this point you could get the proper polishing compound
and have at if with a dremel tool with a cloth wheel, but what I do is
use some furniture polish. The kind that says it dont leave a residue
(which they all do). Endust, there are several off brands that are the
same, they come in a spray can. Just polish them up by hand and theyll
look pretty good. By the way, this furniture polish does a great job on
plastic and painted cases, etc, even wrinkle finish. The stuff I use is
called "spray and dust", and I get it in the dollar store.
