SB-301 Mods?

Opened up my SB301 and underneath the chassis I find two small
perfboards, each with a trimmer cap, fixed cap and toroid coil. I havn't
checked yet to see where they connect in the receiver circuit but was
wondering if this mod sounds familiar to anyone?
