HR-10 Help, please

Hi, Fellow Greenies,

Just finished (so far) aligning a nice old HR-10. Recapped the power
supply; tested the tubes, and the alignment went fine. The receiver
sounds very good on AM and is really quite sensitive.

BUT the BFO...Yuk! When turned on, its tone is as raspy as a 60-cycle
spark transmitter! I reset its center, no problem, during alignment. But
it sounds AWFUL!

Can someone give me any ideas as to what could be wrong? The schematic
shows a pretty simple BFO. Could one of the several caps in the BFO
circuit be flaky? Since recapping the p/s, the AM audio now sounds
practically hi-fi; but, what could be getting into the BFO??

Also: on the Front End Ass'y. The L2 40-meter mixer coil is jammed.
Probably a cracked slug. Anyone have an idea how I might get a spare
coil???

I'd appreciate any ideas
