SB-110A Mods?

Received a dirty but complete SB-110A today.  Should clean up nicely.  Front
panel has stick on plastic labels indicating AM and SSB.  There is also an
out board unit with a slide switch and pot wired into the left circuit
board.  The switch is controlled by a wire through the front panel, kinda
like a choke pull rod on an older car.  Does anyone have an idea what this
mod might be??  Thanks in advance.
