Questions About Heathkit Receivers

Hi Ken...
Keep in mind that the SB and HW transceivers that someone mentioned do
not have AM mode, nor do they have general coverage.
In addition, most Heathkits are a lot of work. You usually have to fix
someone
else's poor assembly, and then perhaps undue the ravages of time.
I did buy an SB303 receiver that I was told built by a engineering
professor,
and it is clear to me what a good construction job can do. That receiver is
solid as can be, and never even had a hiccup! And, to boot... it looks like
new!
I have a stereo tube amp and when I got it, it worked fine. The builder
however
must not have known that you are allowed to cut the resistor leads to
length.
Man, he went through a lot of trouble just to keep leads from touching each
other. It looked like a rat's nest., just horrible!! So, I pulled it all
apart and rebuilt
it. All new components and terminal strips. It is my favorite amp now.
Let me know if I can be of more help. I was old enough to catch the last of
Heathkit myself, but my Mom had to drive me to the store. I built MANY of
them
however. I wish I had kept them!
