3-500Z, etc

I've never tried transmitting or receiving tubes, but I can tell you what works for picture tubes. Doubling the filament voltage and letting a picture tube run for 30 minutes or so will breathe a lot of life into an otherwise tired kine or CRT. However, those filaments are designed to take that abuse, so I've been told. Not sure about power tubes. It would be a good question for Bill Orr, W6SAI.

Hello:

Anyone know the details of the procedure for rejuvenating thoriated tungsten
cathodes (i.e., 3-500Z in SB-220) when they are well worn?

It's something like filament only at a certain % elevated filament voltage
for a certain time.

I'm not looking for K temperatures...I have info on that, but I can measure
voltage but not the temperature.

I'd like to read it myself if it's in an article or old ARRL handbook or
Bill Orr Handbook.

Thanks

Murray
