To the Green Gang,
Last week I received a SB-300. The mode switch was "stuck" in LSB in
all positions. About to go out of town and having no time for liesure
troubleshooting, I appealed to the list for any quick ideas on the problem.
Upon returning to L.A., I took a fast look at the Mode Switch and found the
shaft of the switch had disconnected from the knob shaft. The coupler is
fractured from stress. The bandswitch shaft coupler has stress cracks also.
The gentleman that I purchased the SB-300 quickly responded and is sending
out two tubular shaft couplers similar to the "Millen 39003". I agree with
him that these replacement couplers will be stronger than the original Heath
couplers. The Heath couplers are shaped in a rectangular "C" when looked at
straight lengthwise. This design lends itself to stess on the open side when
the screws are tightened on the opposite side.
I am curious, though, if anyone has or knows how to get original
replacement couplers. They are listed as part # 456-16, Switch shaft
coupling. Also, has anyone out there had the same problem?
In additon, I need a phono socket, SB-300 part # 434-42. This is the
type that mounts on to the chasis with two 6-32 screws. If you have one to
sell or know where it can be found, please let me know.
Thanks for the space. 73's Fred WA8IDI /6
