I worked as an avionics technician for 25 years and one thing we
did to fill in aircraft instrument panels where a switch or indicator
lamp was removed was to use a filler called Liquid Aluminum, or
JB Weld in the empty holes.  File and sand the hardened filler to a
flat, smooth surface. Then spray zinc chromate primer on the bare
metal (if the panel is aluminum), then paint the panel with your
favorite color.  If you did a good job of filing and sanding, you
could not see where the original hole was.
