Dial Belts vs. Strings on HW-100

A couple months ago I asked the list for help on my HW-100 on which, among
other things, the dial belts had worn out (a big THANK YOU to everyone who
replied). I haven't had the time in the past few months to give the rig the
attention it needs, including replacing the belts. Now hearing this
discussion about strings vs. belts, It sounds like I might want to put
strings in instead.

Now for the problem: The pulleys on the HW-100 are soldered instead of
having screws, which I believe are a must for strings (correct me if I'm
wrong). The manual has no info that I can find on installing strings. Any
ideas on how I could put strings in? Any strong recommendations against
doing so?
