SB 110

I have an SB-110 which I use exclusively on six. If you've ever operated
an SB-100/102 etc... it should be pretty familiar. One problem might be
locating 6AZ8's. They tend to be on the expensive side compared to let's
say, 6BA6's. One of those had a drop of paint on top to indicate it was
"selected" at the factory. I presumed it was selected for high
transconductance. The only noise fighting capability it has comes in the
form of an IF ANL which is not quite adequate enough at my QTH. I live
in the middle of town and there's a lot of noise. What I need is a noise
blanker. Got one installed in my SB-303 which I use with a homebrew
converter. The SB-110 has a slide switch on the back for routing the
antenna to an accessory receiver. Another thing it lacks is an RIT,
which all the old Heathkits lacked. That can sometimes be a problem on
six. AS SB-110's tend to be scarce, they're usually pretty expensive
once you find them. As far as transmitting is concerned, output is
around 90 watts from a pair of 6146A's. When you get on the air, people
can't tell the difference wether you're running an SB-110 or one of the
newer rigs. It's stable and puts out a good, clean signal. A copy of the
schematic is a problem: it's one of those great big fold-out sheets so
you can't make a simple photocopy.
