Re: Mike's DX100 and power oddities.
Back in '74 or so I had a Swan 250 and while tuning the finals
(pair of 6146s on 6 meters) I hit a combination of load and tune
whereupon the rig began to growl or groan.A second later I realized the
lights of the whole farmstead were dimming and brightening in perfect
time with the change in pitch of the radio. No fuses blew and everything
returned to normal on quickly turning one of the knobs.
The farmstead has its own tranformer and the load was light at the
time.Even my father's welder in use at the same time as the electric
cookstove didn't cause such dimming of lights.Used the rig for months
without a re-occurence or any apparent damage. So what is the
explanation?
