First, silver oxide (tarnish) IS conductive so there's no reason to remove it.

Second, the pressure exerted by the contact (wiper) against the rotor will remove the
oxide anyway - if you look closely, there will be a very thin, bright line that will
appear after the switch is exercised a few times.

Any attempt to "clean" the contacts can't help and could possibly damage the switch.  It's
a bad risk since there's nothing to gain and lots to loose.

The discussion is academic but its fun.
